Dear colleague,

Do you ever wonder if there is such a thing as a ‘typical PNO person’? If so, you have probably found that this is a difficult question to answer. PNO Innovation has always been a very diverse organization, and now that we are increasingly working together across teams and countries, that experience is growing stronger. The many different cultures, backgrounds, and interests make every interaction with a colleague a little celebration: from “How is the weather?” to discussing typical lunch habits or national celebrations, you always learn a little something new during the oh-so-important small talk before the start of a call.

Nevertheless, there is one particular characteristic that could be attributed to the typical PNO person, and that is a remarkably broad range of interests. Every time we put together a new edition of Connected, the editorial team is surprised by the unexpected and often hidden talents of our colleagues, which go far beyond just a fun hobby. Once again, we are delighted to present a number of interesting contributions that give us an insight into what is going on with our colleagues: in their teams, during their work, and even in their heads!

To start with the latter: in Finding voices, Jeffrey van Leeuwen gives us a glimpse into his deeper considerations that led to his own podcast series, in which a wide variety of topics are explored in depth with really interesting guests. Equally compelling is Giacomo Barolo’s contribution, From refugee camps to disruptive robotics, in which the unexpected comparison between his work during a humanitarian mission in Iraq and his current work at PNO in Spain reads almost like a ‘lessons learned’ manual – but one that we can all benefit from. This contrasts nicely with his vivid description of his birthplace, Padova, which also provides us with the delicious recipe for Sarde in saor. Definitely worth trying!

To stay in the spirit of illuminated cities, in Big ideas, gourmet delights, Sebastian Suasi takes us on a literally delicious trip through the Parisian neighborhood where the PNO office is located. With so many tasty treats and beautiful sights in the immediate vicinity of the office, it’s not hard to get your daily dose of inspiration.

You’re sure to get inspired when reading about Cristian Izquierdo’s musical journey in Cristian’s alter ego, where his playlist invites you to experience this journey for yourself. Speaking of traveling, it appears that many of us have already embarked on a long journey in the world of video games. The many layers that video games have to offer (and how they can improve our work experience) are explained in detail in the small-scale study Legend of Zelda: tears of the deadline.

In short, this issue of Connected is another must-read! It’s the perfect way to get to know your colleagues better. Although, there’s always room for improvement…

The best experiences are those we can share with each other.
